New Castle Correctional Facility Hosts Graduation
New Castle, Ind.— Oakland City University (OCU) recently celebrated commencement ceremonies at the New Castle Correctional Facility (NCCF) where 79 students were recognized for their educational achievements.
The graduates completed vocational programs including Culinary Arts, Master Student to Master Employee, Horticulture Science and Business Computer Applications. The partnership with OCU and the Indiana Department of Correction provides offenders with skills, trades and nationally recognized certifications in high-demand career paths to increase the likelihood of successful re-entry upon release.
Family and friends in attendance were welcomed by OCU Site Manager at NCCF, Michael Thombleson and an invocation by the NCCF Chaplain. Guest speaker, M. Bennett and student representative W. Huguley addressed the crowd, with hope for a brighter future through educational achievement and excellence.
The graduates, visitors and staff were treated to cookies and punch provided by the Culinary Arts class and music provided by the NCCF offender band.
