Governor’s Staff Tour the Pendleton Correctional Complex
Pendleton, Ind. – On November 8, 2019 the Pendleton Complex, consisting of the Pendleton Correctional Facility (PCF), Correctional Industrial Facility (CIF) and Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility (PNJCF) welcomed distinguished members of Governor Eric Holcomb’s Office and Executive Staff from the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) for tours of each facility.
Each correctional facility houses their own unique offender population. The tours provided the Governor’s Office staff with a broad array of the multiple security levels, the types of offenders housed within the complex of facilities and the variety of services and programs available to the offender populations. The tour began at the Pendleton Correctional Facility, followed by a tour and lunch at the Correctional Industrial Facility and ending with a visit at the Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility.
The Pendleton Correctional Facility houses maximum security male offenders, a mental health unit, department wide restrictive housing and a separate Level 1 minimum security facility. During the tour of PCF guests toured J-Cellhouse, the American Legion Post 608 and ended with a visit to the Inside Carpentry Shop where multiple projects from conference tables constructed from wood salvaged from the tornado in May to picnic tables are fabricated.
The Correctional Industrial Facility houses medium security male offenders and provides a variety of programs and services geared towards successful re-entry. During the tour CIF guests were shown the Recovery While Incarcerated substance abuse program, the Echo Program which is education that teaches offenders how to avoid communicable diseases and the Meritor brake refurbishment partnership with ICI.
The Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility consists of maximum security male youth and provides education and treatment promoting positive outcomes for successful re-entry. During the visit to PNJCF, guest toured the Pendleton Juvenile Boot Camp, Providence Jr/Sr High School, including The Last Mile Coding Program, and learned about the Addiction Recovery Services offered through Wexford.
In all, the tours allowed each facility to showcase positive programs within each facility to provide offenders with the services and skills for self-improvement, regardless of their past choices, for a brighter future.
