After Hunt Survey

The After Hunt Survey was created in 2017 to capture biological data on harvested deer and evaluate the hunter’s hunting experience. The survey will again be available for the 2018-2019 deer season. Any successful hunter may complete the survey online immediately after checking in a deer online.

Deer Reduction Zones

The Deer Reduction Zones have changed for the 2018-2019 season. Two traditional Deer Reduction Zones were added in Brown and Warrick counties, and new Deer Reduction Zone Corridors were added along major roads in nine counties. Annual Deer Report now online

The 2017 Indiana White-tailed deer report is now available online. This year’s publication contains comprehensive data and analyses, including results from hunter and non-hunter surveys.

The report also outlines the new 5-year deer management strategy adopted in May 2017. The 2017-2022 goal is to focus deer herd management in a strategically-targeted manner to balance ecological, recreational, and economic needs of the citizens of Indiana.

Also, found in this report are results of the review of the 2012-2016 Deer Management Plan.

Deer Management Survey

The Deer Management Survey will be sent again this year for any hunter and non-hunter who has a DNR account with a valid email address. This survey allows DNR to better understand hunters, deer demographics, deer trends for individual counties, and desired deer management goals. If you would like to express your opinions about deer management, please fill out the survey when you receive it.

Disease surveillance

DNR is conducting targeted Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) surveillance in northwest and northeast Indiana during the 2018-2019 deer hunting season. Hunters can voluntarily submit samples for testing from Sept. 29 – Dec. 23.

Community Hunting Access Program

New white-tailed deer hunting opportunities are available for hunters in certain communities around the state as part of the Community Hunting Access Program. The program provides communities with financial and technical assistance to administer hunting programs in their communities.
