The report also outlines the new 5-year deer management strategy adopted in May 2017. The 2017-2022 goal is to focus deer herd management in a strategically-targeted manner to balance ecological, recreational, and economic needs of the citizens of Indiana.
Also, found in this report are results of the review of the 2012-2016 Deer Management Plan.

Deer Management Survey
The Deer Management Survey will be sent again this year for any hunter and non-hunter who has a DNR account with a valid email address. This survey allows DNR to better understand hunters, deer demographics, deer trends for individual counties, and desired deer management goals. If you would like to express your opinions about deer management, please fill out the survey when you receive it.
Disease surveillance
DNR is conducting targeted Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD)
surveillance in northwest and northeast Indiana during the 2018-2019 deer
hunting season. Hunters can voluntarily submit samples for testing from
Sept. 29 – Dec. 23.
Community Hunting Access Program
New white-tailed deer hunting opportunities are available for hunters in certain communities around the state as part of the Community Hunting Access Program. The program provides communities with financial and technical assistance to administer hunting programs in their communities.
