Many Indiana State Parks are offering Fall Festival and Halloween events, Oct. 19-21 and Oct. 26-28. Some parks still have camping openings for these weekends. Check your favorite park for availability and reserve your site at camp.IN.gov.

Sandhill cranes begin fall migration at Jasper-Pulaski

Sandhill cranes can be seen at Jasper-Pulaski Fish & Wildlife Area from late September through December. Crane numbers peak in mid-November. The best time to view is sunrise, from the Goose Pasture viewing area.

Deer license bundle good for 3 deer, 4 seasons

Deer archery season begins Oct. 1, and you have several choices of deer license you can purchase.

A deer bundle license can be used in all seasons (except the deer reduction zone season) and gives the hunter the privilege to harvest up to three deer (3 antlerless OR 1 antlered and 2 antlerless deer).

If you hunt in more than one season, this is the license deal for you. Season dates, legal equipment, and all other deer hunting laws apply. 
 
Cost:
$65 for Indiana residents
$295 for non-residents
$65 for non-resident youth

Resident youth must purchase a youth hunt/trap combo license, which includes deer hunting privileges.

DNR assists with hurricane and fire recoveries 

Representatives from the Indiana DNR divisions of Law Enforcement and Forestry recently deployed to assist with the effects of Hurricane Florence and wildfires.

A team of 16 Indiana Conservation Officers, in cooperation with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, responded to an Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) request from North Carolina to assist with swift-water rescue and flood evacuations in the wake of Florence.

DNR Reclamation received regional award 

An Indiana DNR Division of Reclamation project in southwest Indiana has received the highest regional award the federal Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE) issues annually.

The award is for the Snow Hill project in Vigo County. The project addressed public safety concerns and environmental damage caused by two large coarse-coal refuse piles on each side of North Coal Creek.

Hall-O-Wheelin' night ride

Join the off-road vehicle (ORV) community for some spooktacular Halloween fun on Oct. 20-21 at Redbird State Recreation Area, near Dugger.

All ORVs and ages welcome. Admission cost for the night ride is $25/ORV ($15 for ORV Annual Pass holders) to ride from Saturday dawn until Sunday dusk, including all Hall-O-Wheelin’ festivities provided by the Redbird Foundation.
