Inaugural Día de la Familia event happening this weekend in Midtown Plaza!
A brand-new community event, Día de la Familia, is making its debut in Carmel on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 1–5 p.m. at Midtown Plaza.
Created in partnership with the City of Carmel, this inaugural celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month was brought to life through the passion and vision of local Latino leaders and dedicated citizens.
What began as an idea from a committee of Carmel residents has grown into a vibrant, family-friendly festival designed to showcase the rich cultures, traditions and spirit of our Hispanic community. With collaboration at its heart, Día de la Familia promises an afternoon filled with connection, celebration and community pride.

Mayor Sue Finkam’s Budget Proposal Protects Public Safety, Holds the Line on Taxes
Mayor Sue Finkam this week presented her 2026 municipal budget to the Carmel City Council and outlined her vision for the City, while acknowledging the new financial reality all communities in Indiana face following the passage of Senate Enrolled Act 1.
The mayor’s budget proposal increases funding for public safety, provides historic investment in Carmel’s roads and streets, promotes fiscal transparency and invests in pillars of quality of life such as parks and the arts ecosystem, all while maintaining a flat tax rate for 2026.

TOWNE ROAD UPDATES (weather- and progress-permitting):
- 136th Street is closed through September
- 141st Street will close after 136th Street opens
- Towne Road Bridge over I-465 is an INDOT project that has an expected completion of early 2026
CLAY CENTER BRIDGE The bridge south of Main Street and north of the Claridge Farm neighborhood entrance is closed through November.
SOUTHBOUND RANGE LINE ROAD
Monday, September 29 through Tuesday, October 7th, Southbound Range Line Road will be closed between Walnut Street and City Center Drive.
A detour route will be provided using Walnut Street, 3rd Avenue SW, and City Center Drive. Northbound Range Line Road will remain open.
NEWS FROM HAMILTON COUNTY HIGHWAY The Hamilton County Highway Department is responsible for all roads, bridges and small structures (less than 20-foot span) within Hamilton County which are not state highways and which are not within the corporate limits of a city or town.
146TH STREET AND ALLISONVILLE ROAD
On or after Friday, September 12, beginning at 1:00 PM, drivers should expect the northeast ramp at 146th Street and Allisonville Road to be closed.
Beginning on or after Monday, September 15, the left lanes of eastbound and westbound 146th Street between Allisonville Road and Rosebud Drive/Harrison Parkway will be closed.
126TH STREET BRIDGE REHABILITATION 126th Street between Brookshire Parkway and Royce Court is closed for bridge rehabilitation with an expected completion date of mid-late October.
Local traffic will continue to have access to their homes, while thru traffic is asked to utilize the posted detour of Keystone Parkway – 131st Street – Gray Road.

Carmel and Noblesville Partner for 31st Annual White River Clean-Up
The City of Carmel Stormwater Department is partnering with the City of Noblesville to host the 31st Annual White River Clean-Up on Sunday, Sept. 14, from 8 a.m. to noon. This annual event brings volunteers together to help make an immediate, positive impact on the White River by removing trash from the water and its banks.

Medical Sharps Collection at Carmel's HHW Site
An important reminder the Carmel Household Hazardous Waste Site collects medical sharps (needles) but these items MUST be in a medical sharp 8-quart container or less. This includes epi-pen-style needles and syringes used for GLP-1 medications. For the safety of the Carmel HHW staff, sharps cannot be collected without this requirement.
Please also note medical sharps containers are NOT available at the Carmel HHW site.

The Carmel Climate Action Committee is tasked with advising and making recommendations regarding the implementation of the Carmel Climate Action Plan (CAP). Strategy PE-1 of the CAP involves public education about sustainability and the environment. This section of the newsletter helps to meet this goal by providing useful information, tips and resources for residents.

Roundabout Ride Saturday, Sept. 13, 8 a.m. Midtown Plaza
There is still time to sign up for this year's Bike Carmel Roundabout Ride, sponsored by IU Health North. This fun event will have two distance options, 25 miles and 50 miles; the costs will be $55 for the 25-mile option and $75 for the 50-mile option.

Calling all creatives!
Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts invites Indiana-based artists, organizations to submit proposals for New Works
New Works is an initiative to promote and sustain local artists and arts communities by supporting the creation of new works in various disciplines.
A panel of judges will select one winner in the visual arts and three winners in the performing arts, which can include music, dance, theater and other fields. The four winning proposals will receive $2,500 each to create and premiere the works during a livestreamed public event May 30 in Allied Solutions Center’s Tarkington theater. The winning visual arts piece, which can be two- or three-dimensional, will be displayed for one year in the main lobby of the Payne & Mencias Palladium concert hall.
The submission deadline is Friday, Sept. 12 at 11:59 p.m. Further details and application instructions are available at this link.
