Boil Water Advisory Due to Loss of Pressure in the Drinking Water System
CARMEL, Ind., August, 11, 2025 - Carmel Utilities crews have been working to restore service due to this morning's significant water outage affecting the westside of Carmel.
A Boil Water Advisory has been issued for all customers in the affected area following a loss of pressure in the drinking water system. This occurred due to a fire hydrant that was unexpectedly blown off the water line, which may have caused potential contamination of the water supply.
What this means:
A drop in water pressure can allow contaminants to enter the water system. As a precaution, we advise all customers to boil water before consuming it until further notice. It is expected the boil advisory will be in place for at least 24 hours.
Please bring all water to a rolling boil for at least one (1) full minute, and let it cool before using it for:
- Drinking
- Cooking or food preparation
- Brushing teeth
- Making ice
- Washing fruits and vegetables
Do not use drinking fountains or ice from automatic ice makers until the system has been flushed and tested.
Carmel Utilities is actively working to repair the system and restore normal water pressure. Once pressure is restored, water samples will be collected and tested to ensure safety. This advisory will remain in effect until we confirm through lab testing that the water is safe to drink.
We will notify the public as soon as the boil water advisory is lifted.
