City’s effort to redirect taxpayer dollars continues
Early work yields $284,000 now dedicated to city services
Findings from a detailed financial and legal review initiated to ensure appropriate use of taxpayer dollars were discussed at the Wednesday, April 16 Affiliate Review Committee meeting.
While the full fiscal and legal review prompted in partnership with Mayor Sue Finkam and the Carmel City Council includes four nonprofit affiliates, Wednesday’s meeting focused on the operation of the Carmel Christkindlmarkt, Inc. (CCI).
Opening remarks at the meeting emphasized the best-in-class nature of the event and its programming. Founded in 2017, the market has received multiple #1 rankings as the nation’s best holiday market by USAToday.

Carmel Marathon Information
It is Carmel Marathon Weekend! This Saturday, runners will return to compete in one of the top Boston Marathon qualifying events. Please see the map below for the full and half marathon routes.
The Carmel Marathon organizers have provided the city with the following resources to share with the community to help navigate traffic on race day.
2025 Carmel Marathon Street Closures 10k Course Map 5k Course Map
106th Street Bridge over Keystone Parkway
Beginning on or after April 28 from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., the northbound lanes of Keystone Parkway will be closed for repairs to the bridge. Traffic will be rerouted to the 106th Street exit.

Hydrant Flushing
Carmel Utilities is conducting city hydrant flushing maintenance over the next four weeks, beginning on the northeast side, then moving west. Flushing is a controlled, quick release of water from fire hydrants, to optimize water quality and confirm that each hydrant is operating properly every year.
Thank you to the Water Distribution department for providing this vital service, with more than 3,000 hydrants checked and serviced.
Landscape debris pick-up from Republic Services
Happy Spring! As part of the Republic Services trash and recycling residential program in Carmel, each household is allowed 20 extra bags or bundles per week of landscape waste, during the months of April and May.
Household Hazardous Waste Site Closure, Saturday, April 19
Please note the Carmel Utilities Household Hazardous Waste Collection Site (901 N. Range Line Rd.) will be closed on Saturday, April 19, due to the 19th Annual Carmel Marathon road closures.

The Carmel Climate Action Committee is tasked with advising and making recommendations regarding the implementation of the Carmel Climate Action Plan (CAP). Strategy PE-1 of the CAP involves public education about sustainability and the environment.
