Carmel Chief of Police Drake Sterling named to Indianapolis Business Journal's Forty Under 40
The City of Carmel is proud to announce that Chief of Police Drake Sterling has been named to the Indianapolis Business Journal's prestigious Forty Under 40 list for 2025, recognizing his outstanding leadership in law enforcement and dedicated community service.
Chief Sterling, who has served as Carmel's Chief of Police since February 2024, was selected for his exemplary professional achievements and significant community impact. Under his leadership, the Carmel Police Department has implemented one of Indiana's pioneering Drone First Responder programs, making it only the second department in the state and among just 25 nationwide to utilize drones as first responders. Chief Sterling has also developed a comprehensive officer wellness initiative that includes a Critical Incident Unit and Peer Officer Support Team providing immediate support to officers exposed to potentially traumatic situations.

Carmel City Councilor Dr. Anita Joshi named Interfaith Ambassador of the Year
Carmel City Councilor Dr. Anita Joshi received the 2025 Interfaith Ambassador of the Year award from the Center for Interfaith Cooperation at their annual banquet April 6.
City leaders and members of the Carmel City Council were in attendance to honor Dr. Joshi on her well-deserved recognition. Her dedication to fostering understanding, unity and respect among people of diverse faiths is truly exemplary.

City provides continued storm support
As part of the cleanup effort following the April 2 storm, Mayor Sue Finkam announced this week that the City of Carmel’s internal teams will prioritize plans submitted by Carmel residents and businesses, further supporting efficient rebuilding of structures and landscapes.
This action comes on the heels of a Monday meeting of the Carmel City Council, where members approved waiving permit and inspection fees to support rebuilding.
"Our dedicated team of professionals are eager to field questions and requests to help our community get back to normal as soon as possible," said Mike Hollibaugh, Director of Department of Community Services.

Talking about TIF
Carmel's Executive Director of Economic Development Nick Weber and Carmel Redevelopment Commission (CRC) Director Henry Mestetsky recently talked Tax Increment Finance (TIF) with the Current in Carmel.
The CRC masterplans and invests in Carmel’s redevelopment areas and incentivizes Carmel’s corporate campuses throughout the city with TIF for garages or other infrastructure.

2025 Construction Information
The City of Carmel provided the following anticipated schedule for the 2025 construction season (see schedule below). These projects include traffic flow improvements, roadway enhancements and continued upgrades to pedestrian safety. Construction schedules are designed to minimize disruptions as best as possible while delivering long-term benefits.

Carmel Utilities news
Hydrant Flushing
Carmel Utilities is conducting city hydrant flushing maintenance over the next four weeks, beginning on the northeast side, then moving west. Flushing is a controlled, quick release of water from fire hydrants, to optimize water quality and confirm that each hydrant is operating properly every year.
Thank you to the Water Distribution department for providing this vital service, with more than 3,000 hydrants checked and serviced.
Landscape debris pick-up from Republic Services
Happy Spring! As part of the Republic Services trash and recycling residential program in Carmel, each household is allowed 20 extra bags or bundles per week of landscape waste, during the months of April and May.
Household Hazardous Waste Site Closure, Saturday, April 19
Please note the Carmel Utilities Household Hazardous Waste Collection Site (901 N. Range Line Rd.) will be closed on Saturday, April 19, due to the 19th Annual Carmel Marathon road closures.

The Cherry Blossom Festival will be held at the Japanese Garden on the grounds of Carmel City Hall in partnership with Carmel Sister Cities, Inc. offering a vibrant celebration of Japanese culture, while recognizing Carmel’s sister city relationship with Kawachinagano, Japan.
