City of Carmel announces commission on public safety
CARMEL, Ind., Oct. 28, 2024 - Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam officially introduced the Mayor’s Advisory Commission on Public Safety today. This commission is set to play a crucial role in advising the mayor on how public safety can adapt to the needs of the community, ultimately providing better service to citizens and patrons of the City of Carmel.
The Mayor’s Commission on Public Safety includes public safety professionals, strategic private sector partners and citizens focusing on contemporary issues facing the residents and public safety professions. Specific roles of the commission include:

Explore and advise on new and evolving safety and security issues

Enhance community engagement that promotes participation between public safety agencies and the community to foster trust

Discuss emergency response protocols and infrastructure to ensure timely and efficient responses to incidents in Carmel and surrounding areas

Support programs focused on crime prevention, including neighborhood watch initiatives, youth mentorship programs, and awareness campaigns that educate the public on safety practices and resources available to them
“Our residents appreciate living in Carmel for many reasons and the safety of our community is chief among them,” Mayor Sue Finkam said. “Maintaining that community experience calls for the input of those who live and work in our city and our commission membership represents a broad mix of interests and expertise.”
The first meeting will take place on Thursday, Nov. 7.
