City of Carmel to receive Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant to improve
municipal facilities
CARMEL, Ind., Sept. 19, 2024 - The City of Carmel is set to receive approximately
$153,000 in funding from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG)
Program, a $550 million initiative funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. These funds, expected to be secured by Oct. 24, will be used to implement energy-efficient upgrades in City Hall and two fire stations: Station 42 and Station 46.
The EECBG Program is designed to assist states, local governments and Indian Tribes in developing strategies to reduce energy use, decrease fossil fuel emissions and improve energy efficiency. The program's flexibility allows for a variety of eligible uses, all focused on maximizing benefits for local and regional communities while promoting environmental sustainability and equity.
Carmel will use the grant funding to update the lighting in City Hall and the two fire stations with more energy-efficient lighting systems, motion sensors and dimming switches. These improvements will help reduce overall energy consumption and costs while contributing to the city's ongoing sustainability efforts.
"The funding from the EECBG Program provides an excellent opportunity for us to make much needed updates to our facilities that will not only reduce our energy use but also create a more sustainable environment for our community," said Clayton Bell (pictured), facilities manager and maintenance supervisor for the City of Carmel. "By upgrading to more efficient lighting and implementing smart controls, we are taking a significant step towards achieving our energy efficiency goals."
The EECBG Program is part of a broader national effort to build a clean and equitable energy economy, prioritizing disadvantaged communities and promoting equity and inclusion in workforce opportunities, consistent with the Justice40 Initiative. The City of Carmel aims to enhance the quality of life for its residents through responsible and forward-thinking energy practices.
