City of Carmel celebrates grand opening of Carmel Fire Department headquarters
The City of Carmel proudly celebrated the grand opening of the Carmel Clay Community Building today, marking a significant milestone in the community’s dedication to public safety. The event, held at 210 Veterans Way, attracted numerous residents and officials who came together to explore the new Carmel Fire Department (CFD) Headquarters and its associated facilities.

Indiana homeland security leader to serve as Carmel fire chief
One of the state’s leading authorities on public safety is joining the City of Carmel as fire chief, Mayor Sue Finkam announced this week.
Joel Thacker will assume the role September 3, providing the leadership and direction necessary to enable members of the Carmel Fire Department to deliver the highest level of fire prevention, EMS and response services to the community.
Currently executive director of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Thacker was appointed to the position by Gov. Eric J. Holcomb in 2022, having previously served as state fire marshal and director of the state’s fire and building safety division.
“Joel has been repeatedly called upon at both local and state levels for his leadership and knowledge in public safety,” Finkam said. “I am thrilled to have his expertise focused on our community, leading an impressive team that is committed to the safety of our residents, businesses and visitors.”

CONCRETE WORK - Beginning on Thursday, Aug. 22, sidewalk work will begin near City Hall and Station #41 on Gradle Drive, Civic Square, Red Truck Road, Veterans Way and Berkhamsted Lane. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic. All work is weather permitting. Thank you for your patience.

Congratulations to Katherine Garnes, winner of this year's Rain on Main art competition for her barrel titled, "Water." Second place was Carolyn Martens with her barrel "Roman Garden with Stone Aqueduct" and Ranj Puthran took third for his "Limoncello" barrel.
The tenth annual Rain on Main event, a popular painted rain barrel contest and auction presented by Carmel Utilities, Carmel Department of Storm Water Management and the Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District, moves to the Carmel Farmers Market on Saturday.

On the Midtown Screen
Head to Midtown Plaza on Tuesdays and Thursdays for Movies at Midtown presented all summer long by Allied Solutions, on the big screen. Showings are at noon and 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and 6 p.m. on Thursdays. This link takes you to the 2024 movie schedule.

Roundabout Ride Saturday, Sept. 14
Bike Carmel will host the 4th Annual Roundabout Ride on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7 a.m., sponsored by IU Health. This fun event will have two distance options, 25 miles and 50 miles; the costs will be $55 for the 25-mile option and $75 for the 50-mile option.

The Carmel Green Initiative invites the public to a seminar on Thursday, Sept. 19 at the Carmel Clay Public Library to learn simple ways to reduce your food waste. This event is free but registration is required.
