Carmel Police Department ribbon cutting
Mayor Sue Finkam joined Chief Drake Sterling and the Carmel Police Department in celebrating the opening of the newly completed headquarters.

The renovation and expansion of the department’s headquarters includes an addition that houses the Carmel City Court and Clerk’s Office, formerly located in City Hall, along with the necessary programs accompanied by them, to better serve the community for generations to come. The expanded facility was designed by Carmel-based Studio M Architecture and Planning and built by Envoy Companies,
“The expansion of the Carmel Police Department Headquarters gives us the tools we need to best serve our community from a centralized location,” said Chief of Police Drake Sterling.
Attendees also heard from Jonathan White, Vice President of Construction at Envoy Companies, and Carmel Police Department Chaplain George Davis.

Mayor Finkam FaceTimes with Carmel Olympian
This Monday, live from Paris, France, Carmel native and tennis Olympian Rajeev Ram had a special FaceTime call. Mayor Sue Finkam, Ram's mother and family members and friends gathered in Midtown Plaza to wish him well in the Olympic games. The Mayor also presented Ram's mother with a temporary street sign bearing his name, that will be placed at Walnut Street and Monon Boulevard. The City of Carmel is proud of all of our Olympians and wishes them well!

Carmel Sister Cities to host Olympic Opening Ceremony Viewing Party in Midtown today
The City of Carmel's six Sister Cities will host a viewing party of the Opening Ceremonies of the 2024 Paris Olympics in Midtown Plaza to promote global unity and awareness of Carmel’s sister city relationships and cheer on our Carmel Olympians. Be sure to wear your SwimCity, USA t-shirt if you have one! Shirts are available for purchase at All Things Carmel, 110 W. Main St. #104.

Traffic and Construction News

|
SPRING MILL ROAD AND I-465 - Thursday, July 18, a truck carrying heavy equipment on I-465 westbound struck the bridge at Spring Mill Road. Southbound Spring Mill Road has opened but northbound remains closed.
MONON GREENWAY - Phase 3 of Monon Boulevard is gearing up for improvements. Beginning on or after July 29, a temporary asphalt path will be placed between City Center Drive and Walnut Street, for use as that section of the Monon Greenway will be closed.

Experience Carmel and more
You may have noticed some changes to what used to be our Midtown social media pages. In an effort to provide residents and visitors with the best information and streamline our communications, the Midtown pages are being re-purposed to include all City of Carmel events and more. These pages will now be titled "Experience Carmel," which will be a one-stop-shop for all things Carmel events, business highlights and more. City GIS Viewer retirement and replacement The City of Carmel’s official Geographic Information Systems (GIS) viewer will be retired and shut off on Friday, August 2. This link takes you to the new GIS viewer on the City's website.
The new viewer now has more robust functionality and includes useful public information that is requested on a regular basis. Data on active transportation initiatives, public hearings and floodplain information can be viewed in the top menu and there is now a link to our new GeoHub where you can explore more map resources such as the Hamilton County Park Finder. The new viewer also has improved functionality on tablets and mobile devices.

On the Midtown Screen
Head to Midtown Plaza on Tuesdays and Thursdays for Movies at Midtown presented all summer long by Allied Solutions, on the big screen. Showings are at noon and 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and 6 p.m. on Thursdays. This link takes you to the 2024 movie schedule.

Bike Carmel Events
Family Fun Ride Saturday, August 10
Our last Family Fun Ride of the season will be here before we know it. Join us at Carmel Elementary for a bike rodeo, face painting, public safety vehicles and a two-mile bike ride.
This event is free but registration is required at this link.

Roundabout Ride returns
Saturday, September 14
The City of Carmel and Bike Carmel will be hosting the 4th Annual Roundabout Ride on Saturday, September 14 at 7 a.m., sponsored by IU Health. This fun event will have two distance options, 25 miles and 50 miles; the costs will be $55 for the 25-mile option and $75 for the 50-mile option.
