Carmel elects new Mayor and City Councilors
The City of Carmel will have a new Mayor and several new faces on the City Council on January 1, 2024. Sue Finkam, currently serving as a Councilor, was elected Mayor on Tuesday. Finkam will become the third woman to be elected Mayor and the first new Mayor for Carmel since 1996 when Mayor Jim Brainard first came into office. Mayor Brainard chose not to run this year.
On City Council, voters elected three At Large Councilors - Jeff Worrell, Matt Snyder and Rich Taylor. The rest of the Councilors elected included: Teresa Ayers (North Central District), Shannon Minnaar (North East), Ryan Locke (North West), Tony Green (South Central), Adam Aasen (South East) and Anita Joshi (West).
Also on Tuesday, Jacob Quinn was elected to the office of City Clerk and Brian Poindexter will return as City Judge.
The City of Carmel will conduct a swearing-in ceremony in January.

City encourages residents to recycle campaign signs
Carmel Utilities and the Carmel Street Department are partnering with the Hamilton County Household Hazardous Waste Center and Recycle Force to recycle campaign signs generated from the 2023 election seasons. This recycling initiative prevents an abundance of yard signs going to a local landfill as they cannot be recycled in regular curbside pickup. If residents do not plan on returning their campaign signs to individual candidates, they are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to recycle.
