Sister City signing in China
Mayor Jim Brainard joined Xiangyang, Hubei Mayor Taihui Wang in China on Tuesday to ratify the Sister City agreement that was established in 2012. Both mayors signed the agreement in both English and Chinese that calls for a formal relationship to promote mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and American people.
“I was very pleased to sign this agreement today to ratify the cultural exchanges that have already begun and will hopefully continue in the future,” said Mayor Brainard. “Despite the challenges of the global relationship between the U.S. and Chinese leaders, it is important that our people continue to build positive relationships under the Sister Cities agreement that will benefit both cities.”

City fortunate to have CPD Crisis Intervention Unit
At the October 16 City Council meeting, the Carmel Police Department Crisis Intervention Unit shared the work they have been doing for our officers and our community.
The Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) consists of Sergeant Katy Malloy, Officer Greg Stovall, and two mental health clinicians, Hannah Cowles and Jody Kennedy. The unit values the multidisciplinary approach that the officer/clinician pairing provides to the City of Carmel.
The CIU's primary focus is the community. They provide stabilization services, on-scene response and case management for individuals experiencing issues related to mental health. Many of the cases are referred by officers who encounter these individuals and recognize the need for additional resources or services. The members of CIU are also involved in the department’s Officer Wellness Program and provide ongoing training, peer support, critical incident debriefs, resources and referrals.
