Roundabout sculptures due for some touch-ups at no expense to Carmel taxpayers
CARMEL, IN – The City of Carmel not only works hard to build and install beautiful sculptures inside many of our roundabouts, but we also take the extra step to make sure those sculptures are maintained over time. Recently, it came to our attention that a few of our sculptures were in need of some touch-up maintenance. Work has already begun to ensure these sculptures continue to look beautiful. The work will have a temporary impact on traffic.
Here are the details:
Grace, Love and Joy – Old Meridian Street & Pennsylvania Street
The most recent annual inspection of “Grace, Love and Joy” – a large rose sculpture at Pennsylvania Street and Old Meridian Street – resulted in the finding that pink paint was peeling from the surface of the roses. The source of this issue has been traced back to the paint used on the sculpture. The impacted flower petals were taken down to be stripped and repainted at no cost to the City of Carmel. This work is estimated to take two weeks.

Homage to Hoagy – City Center Drive & 3rd Avenue SW
The most recent annual inspection of “Homage to Hoagy” – the musically themed sculpture that is in the roundabout at City Center Drive and 3rd Avenue SW near the Palladium – determined that in places, the gold paint needs to be touched-up. This was also traced to an issue with the paint that was used on the sculpture. The plan is to use a lift to access the areas affected and repaint where necessary. This work will also be done at no expense to the City of Carmel, but may involve some traffic restrictions during the process, which should take about one week to complete.
