13th Annual Art of Wine - Saturday
A diverse group of 15 Indiana wineries spanning the Hoosier state from the Ohio River region to northern Indiana will take over Main Street on Saturday, May 21, from 5-10 p.m. Admission is free, but visitors can purchase a souvenir wine glass for $30 and enjoy unlimited tastings from the wineries.
All ages are welcome to attend the event, which will also feature street musicians, food vendors and more scattered across the District where unique art, gift shops and restaurants will be open.
Enhance your experience with a VIP Prime Hour ticket that gives you the “first hour” of tasting from 4-5 p.m. as well as a few extras. Those VIP tickets are available online now through today.

Monon Boulevard and Midtown Plaza named finalists in ULI Awards for Excellence
Carmel’s popular Monon Boulevard and Midtown Plaza has been named one of 21 finalists for the "Awards for Excellence” from the Washington, D.C.-based Urban Land Institute (ULI), one of the most prestigious awards programs in the real estate industry. This year’s finalists include 19 developments in the United States and two in Canada.

City unveils new sculpture, 'Swing Me Higher, Mama' in Arts & Design District
At Saturday's Meet Me on Main event, a new sculpture was unveiled at the corner of Main Street and Veterans Way. "Swing Me Higher, Mama" by Zimbabwean sculptor Dominic Benhura, depicts a mother joyfully swinging her child. A reception for Benhura followed the unveiling, at Kuaba Gallery. Bike Carmel's next Family Fun Ride is June 11
Bike Carmel presented by IU Health North hosted the first Family Fun Ride of the season on May 14. Mark your calendars for the June 11 event at Carmel Elementary School.
There will be activities and games before and after each ride and every registered participant will receive a swag bag and t-shirt. Registration is free and begins at 8:30 a.m with the ride rolling out at 9:30 a.m.

Construction and Traffic News
MAIN STREET ROUNDABOUTS - Preliminary work is underway at the two intersections on Main Street near the high school. On or after May 26, the roundabouts at Richland Avenue and Lexington Boulevard will begin construction under closures.
Access to Carmel Christian Church and the educational buildings on the south side of Main Street will be maintained from the east side of the project along Main Street with the majority of construction completed prior to the start of school in August.
1st AVENUE NW - The construction east of Sophia Square continues on Veterans Way and to the north at the intersection of 1st Avenue NW and 1st Street NW. Access to the Sophia Square parking garage will now be from West Main Street instead of from 1st Street NW. This traffic pattern will be in place for the duration of this work which will extend through May; full completion of this project is estimated for June.
SMOKY ROW PROJECT - This project, beginning on or after May 26, is the reconstruction of the current two-lane road into a boulevard with a landscaped median, new curbs, storm water collection, multi-use paths, new bridges on Smoky Row and on the Monon Greenway, north of Smoky Row. In addition, a new roundabout will be built at the west end of the project limits on Smoky Row. (See map below)

FROM THE INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION Beginning Friday, May 20 between 9 and 11 p.m., I-465 eastbound will be reduced to one lane from Allisonville Road eastbound for the duration of the weekend. All lanes I-465 north and westbound are expected to remain open. The lane closures are necessary for crews to restripe shift eastbound/southbound lanes in preparation for future construction. All lanes are expected to reopen by Sunday evening. (See map below)

Comprehensive Plan heads to City Council committee on June 13
The City Council held a public hearing on the fourth draft of the proposed Comprehensive Plan in April. After discussion, the proposal was sent to the Council's Land Use and Sepcial Studies Committee for further review. A series of meeting dates have been set aside for the committee to review the proposed Comprehensive Plan. Go to CarmelComprehensivePlan.com to:

Republic Services Landscape Waste Pick-up continues through May
Carmel Utilities/Republic Services households are allowed 20 extra bags or bundles per week of landscape waste, free of charge. Please place as much yard waste as possible into the trash cart, while allowing the trash cart lid to close. Large branches must be cut into shorter sections (no larger than four feet) and tied into bundles.

One day trash delay due to Memorial Day Holiday
A friendly reminder that, due to Memorial Day, there will be a one-day delay of Republic Services trash and recycling service the week of May 30.

Carmel Utilities Drive-up Billing Drop Box Temporarily Out of Service
The Carmel Utilities drive-up billing drop box, located in the south parking lot at Carmel City Hall, One Civic Square, is temporarily out of service. Due to deterioration and long use, the structure has become compromised and is no longer able to securely hold customer payments. Carmel Utilities will post updates and announce the re-opening of the drop box when those details are known.
Did you know there are several ways to make a Carmel Utilities bill payment? Please consider other convenient options:
-Drop payments off at the Carmel Utilities Administrative offices located at 30 W. Main St., Ste 220, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Rain on Main - Now accepting new artist applications
Local artists (professionals and talented adult amateurs) are invited to participate in Rain on Main, a painted rain barrel art contest that will include cash prizes in two categories as well as exposure for participating artists and their work.
Rain on Main is designed to help educate the public about the value of water conservation. The event is sponsored by the Carmel Utilities, the Department of Storm Water Management and the Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District.

News from Hamilton County - Duke Energy sponsorship will expand Bicentennial outreach
Hamilton County recently announced that Duke Energy will serve as the lead sponsor for the upcoming 200th anniversary in 2023. Financial support from the local energy company will provide dozens of grants to local non-profit community organizations to create outreach programs and activities related to the celebration.
