Self-employed Hoosiers are eligible for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA)

Update on Unemployment Assistance:

Yes, self-employed Hoosiers are eligible.

Self-employed individuals are eligible for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) through the CARES act.

Until the Indiana Department of Workforce Development receives guidance for the program from the federal government, your application will be denied in Indiana's system. This is okay, be patient. Your application will remain in the system, and as soon as Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) guidance is received, the Department of Workforce Development will make the necessary adjustments in Indiana's system and your application will be eligible.

If you're self-employed and joined one of our webinars in the last two weeks, you heard us tell you that you are eligible for unemployment and to file now. Our guidance remains the same. Applying now will ensure that when the adjustments in Indiana's system recognize Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), your application will already be in the system.

Get information straight from the Department of Workforce Development during a live Facebook event next week.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) is hosting a Facebook live event to discuss the latest available details on the federal stimulus package (CARES Act) and how it affects unemployment insurance benefits. It will also include information for self-employed individuals and contractors affected by COVID-19 and the most commonly asked questions DWD receives.

The live event will be held at 10:30 a.m. eastern time on April 8 and will be recorded and made available to the public on DWD’s Facebook page.

To join live and to access the recording after the event, go to DWD’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/IndianaDWD/

And remember, if you have questions, let us know. We’re here to help.
