St. Charles Police Issue Scarecrow Weekend Traffic Advisory
ST. CHARLES, Ill. (Oct. 2, 2025) - The St. Charles Police Department has issued an advisory to inform residents and those traveling through the city between Friday and Sunday to be aware of a substantial increase in both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
The city’s annual Scarecrow Weekend returns starting Friday, October 10 at noon, and continues through Sunday the Oct. 12, concluding at 5 p.m. Set-up for the festival will begin Thursday, October 9 at 5 a.m. On the east side of town, the festival takes place from South Riverside Avenue at Illinois Avenue all the way north to Pottawatomie Park. On the west side of town festivities are located at the 1st Street Plaza as well as Lincoln Park, which is located at 4th Street and West Main Street.
Drivers should expect significant delays as they near the downtown area. The following road closures will be in place beginning October 9 at 5 a.m. through October 12 at 5 p.m.
- Riverside Ave. from E. Main St. to Illinois Ave.
- Cedar St. between N. 4th and N. 5th Ave.
- 5th Ave. between Cedar St. and W. Main St.
- 4th St. between Cedar St. and W. Main St.
Handicapped parking for the festival is located around St. Patrick’s Church. There will be designated parking spots at the 100 blocks of N. 5th Ave. and N. 4th Ave. There will also be handicapped parking in the northern parking lot of City Hall.
During the days of the festival, there will also be no parking on North Ave. between N. 3rd Ave. and N. 5th Ave.
Police and EMA personnel will be at key locations assisting pedestrians across the roadways. Drivers who will not be attending the festival are encouraged to avoid the downtown area by either using the Red Gate Bridge on the north end of the city, or the Prairie Street bridge south of downtown.
