The St. Charles Fire Department Recognizes Fire Prevention Week™ with an Open House Sept. 6
2025 Theme: Charge into Fire Safety™ - Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home
ST. CHARLES, Ill. (Aug. 13, 2025) – The St. Charles Fire Department is hosting an Open House at Fire Station #1, 112 N. Riverside Avenue, on Saturday, September 6, from noon to 3 p.m. in celebration of Fire Prevention Week.
This year’s campaign, Charge into Fire Safety:™ Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home, focuses on educating the public about the safe use of lithium-ion batteries. The message emphasizes how important it is to buy, charge, and recycle these batteries responsibly to prevent fire hazards.
Open House Highlights
All are welcome to stop by, meet the firefighters, and learn valuable fire safety tips. Featured activities include:
- Live Fire Demonstration
- Special Rescue Operations
- Firefighter Combat Challenge for Kids
- Fire Extinguisher Demonstrations

Live Burn/Sprinkler Demonstration – showcasing the effectiveness of home sprinkler systems
There will also be fun activities for children, refreshments, and informational displays covering department programs and general safety concerns.

Safely Use Lithium-ion Batteries: 3 Key Steps

Buy Only Certified Products - When purchasing products with lithium-ion batteries, look for safety certification marks such as UL, ETL, or CSA. These indicate the product meets key safety standards.

Charge Devices Safely - Always use the charger and cord provided by the manufacturer. Follow all instructions. Only purchase replacement chargers from the manufacturer or approved vendors. Charge devices on hard surfaces, avoid overcharging, and unplug when fully charged.

Recycle Batteries Responsibly - Never throw lithium-ion batteries in the trash or regular recycling bins, as they can cause fires. Instead, recycle them at certified battery recycling locations. Visit call2recycle.org to find a nearby drop-off site.
Support the 2025 Fire Prevention Week Campaign
The St. Charles Fire Department urges all residents to take part in this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign. It is a great reminder to practice safety when using lithium-ion batteries — and to take action.
In addition to the Open House, the Department will conduct school visits to share fire safety education with students throughout the community.
