Village of Plainfield E-News Updates - 5/17/24

The 127th Street bridge, over the DuPage River, is scheduled to close to all traffic on Friday, May 24. The bridge was slated for repairs this year; however, due to the accelerated decline in the bridge deck's condition, a full deck replacement is required. The Village is actively working on permitting and designing the bridge improvements. Construction of the bridge is scheduled to take place this summer and the bridge is expected to reopen in the fall. Detour Map

The Village logo brick paver medallion located at the intersection of Lockport Street and Des Plaines Street is scheduled for maintenance tomorrow, May 18. Work will begin at 5 a.m. and last until approximately 12 p.m. Traffic delays should be anticipated as temporary lane closures will impact both east and west travel lanes. 

The Northern Illinois Food Bank will be holding a Mobile Food Pantry at St. Mary Immaculate Parish, 15629 S. Route 59, on May 21 from 4:30-6 p.m. The Mobile Food Pantry provides healthy food to those in need. 

May 22 is Plainfield's Rail Safety Day, which is being conducted in conjunction with the CN Railroad and Illinois Operation Lifesaver. A motor vehicle’s failure to stop is the contributing factor in more than 70% of all crossing accidents and more than 50% of all collisions occur at locations with flashing lights and ringing bells. Be aware when crossing railroad tracks!

The contractor has completed the installation of the culverts and asphalt patches on Ridge Road. Next week, weather permitting, the contractor will continue to work on the water main and begin road widening operations for Ridge Road. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), in conjunction with the Wisconsin Central Limited (WCL), is planning to repair the badly deteriorated at-grade railroad crossing on IL 126 (Lockport Street), west of Main Street. IL 126 (Lockport Street) will be fully closed to through traffic at the railroad tracks. The closure will begin on Monday, June 3, at 9 a.m. and conclude on or before Monday, June 10, at 7 a.m., weather permitting. Detour Route Information

A public information meeting for the Old Town Roadway Reconstruction project will be held on June 5, at 5 p.m., at Public Works, 14400 Coil Plus Drive. The project includes roadway reconstruction, sidewalk and driveway apron replacement, ADA pedestrian improvements, the addition of decorative streetlights, drainage work, and parkway restoration along Lockport, Eastern, Bartlett, Center, Amboy, and Evans. The project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2025.
