(Peoria, IL). Peoria Firefighters were called early this morning around 3:00 AM to 1504 S. Crown Street for a mutual aid box with Limestone Fire Protection District. When Firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the second story of a residential home. Firefighters advanced handlines to the second floor and found that a bedroom and contents of the room were on fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire and began to check for any additional fire in the ceilings and walls. Large positive pressure fans were used to rid the structure of smoke and the products of combustion. Six residents were living in the home at the time and were all outside prior to the fire department arrival. The residents were unsure what started the fire and awoke to an odor of smoke. No civilian injuries were reported at this time. The residents of the home will be displaced due to the damage of the fire, and the Red Cross is assisting. One firefighter suffered a medical event while performing firefighter duties and was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Damage is estimated at $60,000 and the cause is under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshall (OSFM). Once the fire was under control the scene was turned over to the Limestone Fire Protection District who has jurisdiction of the home.
