Aggravated Discharge/Reckless Conduct PPD Incident #26-63971
(PEORIA, IL) On Thursday, September 3, 2026, at approximately 6:56 p.m., officers with the Peoria Police Department were dispatched to the 3800 block of W. Warwick Drive regarding a reported disturbance involving a vehicle. Officers were also advised that multiple shots had been fired in the area.
Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle near the intersection of Creighton Terrace and Big Hollow with visible damage consistent with a gunshot strike, as well as front-end damage. The adult male driver, identified as 20-year-old Amari D. Smith, was detained at the scene. During the preliminary investigation, officers learned that Smith intentionally struck the rear of a vehicle being driven by an adult female. The female was not injured.
Officers learned that an adult male, identified as 21-year-old Jalen Perez, exited a residence and fired multiple shots toward the vehicle driven by the male who had struck the female's vehicle.
A short time later officers detained Perez at a residence on W. Warwick Drive.
Perez was subsequently arrested for:
• Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm • Aggravated Assault • Unlawful Possession of a Weapon
Smith was arrested for: • Aggravated Assault • Criminal Damage to Property
Both males were transported to the Peoria County Jail.
