 Fire Department hosting open house Saturday
Don't miss the Oak Park Fire Department's annual open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 3 at the main fire station located at 100 N. Euclid Ave. Residents of all ages are invited to get up close to the Fire Department’s equipment and talk to the firefighter/paramedics who keep the community safe. The event also will include tours of the fire house and presentations about safety. To help supply local community blood centers, a blood drive is being held onsite from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Click here to register to donate blood. Walk-ins are also welcome at the blood drive.

Harvest season at the Oak Park Farmers' Market
Fall is here, and with it comes a changing variety of produce at the Oak Park Farmers’ Market. Plums, nectarines, pears, squash, pumpkins, apples and cider are just some of the seasonal favorites now available along with meats, eggs, honey and cheese from the more than two dozen regular Market vendors. The Market is held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through Nov. 14 in the Pilgrim Church parking lot at 460 Lake St., just west of Ridgeland Avenue. Plan Commission holding public hearing on zoning
The Village’s Plan Commission will hold a public hearing as it considers proposed changes to Oak Park’s zoning code from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8 in the auditorium at Oak Park and River Forest High School. Residents are encouraged to visit www.engageoakpark.com/shape to find answers to frequently asked questions and review a presentation about the proposed changes to Oak Park’s zoning code. Community members can also explore the Village’s Zoning Comparison Tool to see what could change on their block, provide feedback and ask questions.

Day in Our Data hackathon this Saturday
Oak Park residents are invited to Day in Our Data, a one-day civic hackathon sponsored by the Village’s Civic Information Systems Commission. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 3 in the meeting room at the Dole Branch Library, 255 Augusta St. Participants will explore Village data, working in teams to create useful tools, websites, maps and visualizations. Potential projects include mapping safe biking routes to schools, finding patterns in crime data or visualizing changes in Oak Park housing affordability. The day will begin with project pitches and team formation, followed by collaborative work sessions and brief demonstrations. Pizza and snacks will be provided. Clean Energy Open Houses being held Sunday
See what your Oak Park neighbors are doing to power their homes cleaner, safer, cheaper and greener from 2 to 4 p.m. this Sunday, Oct. 4. The Oak Park Climate Action Network’s Clean Energy Open Houses offer a chance to walk through two typical vintage Oak Park homes that have been fully electrified with heat pump HVAC and hot water heaters, solar panels, geothermal, induction stoves and more. Homeowners and contractors will be on hand to answer questions and share expertise. This event is free but registration is required – click here to register.

Benchmarking Data Jam set for Oct. 6
The Village's Energy and Water Benchmarking Ordinance requires buildings 10,000 square feet and larger to report energy and water usage to help building owners and managers improve energy efficiency. The Village's Office of Sustainability & Resilience is hosting a Benchmarking Data Jam from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6 in Room 101 at Village Hall. During this hands-on workshop, building owners and managers will learn how to set up a free account in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, how to set up a building profile, how to collect and enter monthly energy and water use data for an entire building, and how to share data to comply with the benchmarking ordinance.
