 Shape Oak Park information sessions planned
Mark your calendar for a series of community information sessions where residents will be able to ask questions and provide feedback about Shape Oak Park, the Village effort to update Oak Park’s zoning code to allow more missing middle housing and single-family homes. The Village’s Shape Oak Park team prepared draft zoning recommendations earlier this summer, and the Village is seeking feedback from the community before the recommendations are submitted to the Plan Commission and Village Board for a vote this fall. Six community information meetings are planned during September. In the meantime, residents can explore the Zoning Comparison Tool to see what exactly could change in their neighborhood and submit questions to the project team.

Native tree sale discount for
Oak Park residents
The Village is partnering with West Cook Wild Ones to subsidize the purchase of native trees for Oak Park residents to plant on their property. Trees can be ordered online through the West Cook Fall Tree and Shrub Sale now through Sept. 13. Trees are available for residents at a 50% discount. The full price for trees ranges from $27 to $46 per tree. Most trees are available in a five-gallon container. Enter the discount code OPTREES26 at the time of purchase. Click here to place an order. The discount for Oak Park residents applies towards the purchase of up to two trees per property. Tree pickup will take place Sept. 26. The initiative is tied to the Village’s Climate Ready Oak Park goal to establish 30% of the land as green infrastructure by planting native plants and increasing tree canopy coverage.

Tips for staying safe when
using e-bikes, e-rides
E-bikes, e-scooters, electric skateboards and other e-rides are becoming an increasingly popular way to travel around Oak Park. They offer a convenient, affordable and environmentally friendly transportation option, but they also travel faster than traditional bicycles. These higher speeds can cause more serious injuries in a crash, which has led to increased emergency room admissions and surgeries after crashes. Whether you're a rider, a parent or a driver sharing the road, everyone plays a role in keeping our streets safe. Police Department launches Dog Walker Watch program
The Oak Park Police Department is participating in the National Association of Town Watch's (NATW) Dog Walker Watch program, which encourages residents who regularly walk their dogs to serve as additional eyes and ears for law enforcement by learning how to recognize and report suspicious activity. NATW is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting community-based crime prevention initiatives in partnership with law enforcement. Submit nominations for Oak Park's Preservation Awards
Nominations are being accepted through Oct. 9 for Oak Park's Preservation Awards, which are chosen each year by the Village's Historic Preservation Commission. Nomination categories include restoration, rehabilitation, adaptive use, additions/new construction and stewardship. Electricity aggregation letters mailed to some households
Some Oak Park households are receiving letters indicating a change in their participation in the Village's community choice electricity aggregation program. Village Sustainability officials are reminding residents that whether they are added or removed from the program, a few things always stay the same:
- There is NEVER any change to your electricity rate as a result of the Village's aggregation program.
- There will be no interruption in your electricity service.

ComEd will continue to be the entity billing electricity use and is who you should contact for any service issues.
