 Help shape Oak Park's green infrastructure plan
The Village is seeking feedback from community members as it develops a Biodiversity and Green Infrastructure Plan. An online survey is available along with more information about the initiative at www.engageoakpark.com/green-infrastructure. Feedback gathered through the survey will help shape and prioritize the strategies the Village’s Office of Sustainability & Resilience pursues to meet the goal of establishing 30% of Oak Park’s land as green infrastructure or enhanced management for plants, wildlife and people by 2030.

Public Works Department hosting Touch-a-Truck event
Don’t miss the Public Works Department's Touch-a-Truck event from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19. Residents of all ages are invited to visit the Public Works Center at 201 South Blvd. to enjoy light refreshments and get up close to some of the equipment and vehicles used to keep Oak Park running every day. The event is being held in celebration of National Public Works Week and this year’s theme, “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community."

Blood drive taking place at Village Hall
The Oak Park Public Health Department is hosting a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19 at Village Hall, 123 Madison St. Sign up here to reserve a spot. The blood collected during the blood drive will help neighbors who have been in a car accident, are having surgery, receiving cancer treatments, experiencing medical issues after giving birth and a variety of other medical situations. Blast Off to Kindergarten community event this Sunday
All children and families who will be starting kindergarten this fall are invited to the Blast Off to Kindergarten community event from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday, May 17 at Rehm Park. Hosted annually by the Collaboration for Early Childhood in partnership with Oak Park Elementary School District 97, the Park District of Oak Park, the Village of Oak Park and other local community partners, the event connects families with the people, programs and resources that support a smooth start to school. The event will feature after-school programs, Oak Park Elementary School District 97 staff and administrators, and staff from Oak Park kindergarten programs as well as parent teacher organizations from local schools.

E.C.H.O. Exchange set for May 22 at Wise Cup
Join the Village’s E.C.H.O team and members of the Oak Park Police and Fire Departments for coffee and conversation at locations around the community one Friday morning each month. The next E.C.H.O. Exchange event is scheduled for 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, May 22 at Wise Cup, 1018 Lake St. These monthly events provide an opportunity for residents to ask questions, access resources and learn more about how E.C.H.O., Police and Fire work together to support community safety and well-being.

Village offering webinar on low-cost capital for energy upgrades
Building owners, developers and facility managers are invited to join the Village, the Illinois Climate Bank and Cook County CPACE for an in-depth webinar designed to help navigate the evolving landscape of low-cost, long-term financing in Illinois. The webinar will take place from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, May 20 – click here to register. The Village’s Chief Sustainability Officer and other experts will break down how to leverage available capital to fund comprehensive energy efficiency, renewable energy and water conservation projects that pay for themselves.

MWRD hosting open house at Stickney water reclamation plant
The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD), which treats wastewater and manages stormwater for Oak Park and the rest of Cook County, is hosting an open house for all ages between the hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 16 at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant, 6001 W. Pershing Rd. in Cicero. Visitors can take an abbreviated tour of the plant, participate in interactive activities with MWRD staff and take home free oak tree saplings, milkweed and native wildflower seeds. Guests may also drop off unwanted medicines as part of the MWRD’s collection campaign to help keep pharmaceuticals out of local water resources.
