Take waste survey, receive refuse fee credit
The Village is undertaking a waste characterization study with the goal of gaining important insights into the types and quantities of waste generated by Oak Park residents. Residents served by the Village’s waste hauler who complete this online survey will receive a $10 credit toward refuse fees on their next quarterly water bill. Limit one survey response credit per household. Feedback gathered will help Village officials develop viable strategies for meeting the waste diversion and reduction goals spelled out in the Village’s Climate Ready Oak Park comprehensive plan.

 Village launches open data portal
The Village recently launched an open data portal that serves as a hub for exploring interactive maps and downloading data related to municipal government. The platform also provides access to GIS-related reports and offers insights into how the Village and other regional government agencies use spatial data to address key challenges and make informed decisions. Traffic crash data, a business license dashboard and information about capital improvement projects are just a few of the tools available. First-time users are encouraged to visit the ‘Getting Started’ tab to learn tips and tricks on how to best dive into the experience. New datasets are being added frequently, so be sure to check back for updates.
Information about food assistance resources
With the federal government shutdown affecting SNAP and other food assistance programs, the Village and neighboring communities have developed a list of local organizations and community fridges offering help to those in need. More than 7% of Oak Park households receive SNAP benefits. If you or someone you know is experiencing food insecurity, resources are available across West Cook County to provide support. View the list of food assistance options at www.oak-park.us/foodassist, or contact the Village’s E.C.H.O. team at 708.358.5640 or echo@oak-park.us for additional assistance.
