Compost program diverts waste from landfills
Oak Parkers can reduce the amount of organic material sent from their homes to landfills by signing up for the Village's composting program. Residents who participate in the program receive a 96-gallon cart for the weekly collection of organics and a ktichen compost pail. Both yard waste and food scraps may be placed in the organics cart, and residents can share an organics cart with one other neighbor to reduce the $16.31 monthly cost. Residents who live in multifamily buildings too large to participate in the Village collection program but still wish to compost may leave food scraps and food soiled paper products in the clearly labeled carts at one of four locations in the Village. Find more information about the compost program and drop off locations at www.oak-park.us/compostable.
