 Climate Ready Energy Grants available
The Village is offering Climate Ready Energy Grants to support Oak Park residents in making energy efficiency improvements to their homes. Eligible projects include everything from installing insulation and fixing drafty windows to switching to an electric water heater and installing solar panels or other renewable energy systems. All homeowners qualify for a $1,000 grant. Grants of $10,000 and $5,000 are available depending on income eligibility. Learn more about how to apply at www.oak-park.us/EnergyGrants. Residents are also encouraged to take advantage of various federal clean energy tax credits that end in the coming months. Pie Bake-Off this Saturday at Oak Park Farmers' Market
The Oak Park Farmers' Market annual Pie Bake-Off is taking place from about 9 to 11 a.m. this Saturday, Sept. 6 in the Pilgrim Church parking lot at 460 Lake St. A panel of judges will choose a first, second and third-place winner from this year’s entrants. To top it off, samples of pie will be given away to Market visitors after the contest on a first-come, first-served basis. Now in its 50th year, the Farmers’ Market takes place from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through October. For more information about the Market, visit www.oak-park.us/farmersmarket.

Lombard Avenue bridge closing for two weeks
The Lombard Avenue bridge over the I-290 expressway will be closed to vehicle traffic from Sept. 10-24 as part of an ongoing project involving repairs to multiple bridges in Oak Park. Pedestrian access on one side of the street will be maintained throughout the repairs. Commuters will also be able to enter the CTA’s Austin Blue Line station from Lombard while construction is ongoing. The work will include curb repairs, sidewalk patching, pavement patching and joint replacements. Repairs on the Oak Park Avenue bridge will follow, with a start date still to be scheduled. First Fridays series continues tonight in South Town District
The next stop in the First Fridays Street Festival Series is happening from 5 to 9 p.m. tonight (Sept. 5) in the South Town Business District. Enjoy live music, explore local vendors and take part in family-friendly activities during this free event in the parking lot off Harrison Street just east of Oak Park Avenue behind Carnival Grocery Oak Park and Fifth Third Bank.

BarrieFest returns this Saturday
BarrieFest is happening from noon to 5 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 6 in Barrie Park. Billed as Oak Park's largest block party and hosted by the Southeast Oak Park Community Organization (SEOPCO), BarrieFest is a neighborhood celebration featuring food, fun and friendship. Several Village departments plan to be on hand to share information about municipal government programs and resources.

Plein Air Festival happening this weekend in Oak Park
Local artists will be participating in Oak Park’s inaugural Plein Air Festival today through Sunday, Sept. 5-7. The open-air painting event is coordinated by the Oak Park Area Arts Council and Explore Oak Park & Beyond. Artists will be free to paint across various locations in Oak Park during the three-day event, culminating in a closing reception from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7 at the Nineteenth Century Charitable Association where works will be displayed, sold, judged and eligible for prizes. Native tree sale discount for residents available through Sept. 13
There is still time to take advantage of a discount for Oak Park residents when purchasing native trees and shrubs through the West Cook Fall Tree and Shrub Sale. Enter the discount code OPTREES for a 50% discount at the time of purchase. Online orders are being accepted through Sept. 13. The full price for trees ranges from $27 to $46. Most trees are available in a five-gallon container. The discount for Oak Park residents applies toward the purchase of up to two trees per property. Tree pickup will take place Sept. 27. The initiative is tied to the Village’s Climate Ready Oak Park goals of encouraging the planting of native plants and increasing the Village’s tree canopy cover.

Leash required for dogs in public areas
Village Animal Control officials are reminding dog owners that all dogs that use any street, sidewalk, parkway or public area within Oak Park must be on a leash no longer than 8 feet controlled by the owner. The Park District of Oak Park offers two areas where dogs can run off leash in Maple Park and Ridgeland Common. Both dog parks are free to Oak Park residents who have obtained a dog park pass.
