The Village began sharing a video this week featuring Police Chief Shatonya Johnson and Fire Chief J.T. Terry discussing how their respective departments are working with the E.C.H.O. team to reimagine public safety in Oak Park by integrating compassionate care with traditional response. The video highlights the work of E.C.H.O. Care Coordinators, who meet residents with a steady presence that walks alongside them toward a long-term solution. This approach ensures that those in need are not just assisted in the moment, but also connected to resources that create lasting stability. Click here to watch the video, which is posted on the Village’s YouTube page and being shared across its other communications channels. Repairs on the East Avenue bridge over I-290 are planned to begin the week of Aug. 25, weather permitting. The work is expected to take about two weeks and will include patching the bridge deck and repairing curbs and sidewalks. During the first week, the southbound lane over the bridge will be closed and traffic will be detoured to Ridgeland Avenue. The following week, all lanes will be open, and no traffic will be detoured. Northbound traffic and pedestrian access on at least one side of the street will remain open throughout the project. Repairs on the Oak Park Avenue and Lombard Avenue bridges over I-290 are also upcoming following the completion of the East Avenue work.
Water and Sewer Improvements – Water service installation is in progress on the 900 block of Forest Ave. All services on the public side will be completed this week, with private water service replacements and roadway excavation to follow next week. On Columbian Avenue, concrete curb, sidewalk and driveway removals and replacements began this week in various locations where needed. Concrete work is anticipated to continue into next week.
Bike boulevards update – The remainder of the work on Scoville Avenue is wrapping up this week. This includes the installation of green MMA bike markings, thermoplastic striping and polyurea bike “Blvd” symbols. The next phase of the project is tentatively expected to start Aug. 25 as crews will continue to build the bike boulevard network throughout the Village.
Resurfacing project – Resurfacing work is on a pause as the project's MWRD permit is pending. Site layout and saw-cutting will continue, but removals will not move forward until the permit is approved.
