 Farmers' Market opening day this Saturday
Get ready for a busy weekend filled with community events, starting with opening day for the Oak Park Farmers’ Market’s 49th season! The Market takes place rain or shine from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday starting May 18 through Oct. 26 in the Pilgrim Church parking lot at 460 Lake St. More than two dozen regional vendors will offer a variety of fresh produce, meats, cheese, eggs, baked goods, breads and flowers this season. The first two weeks of the Market feature Go Green Days with a dozen sustainability-focused organizations sharing information about ways to protect the environment.

Blast Off to Kindergarten event set for Sunday
All children and families who will be starting kindergarten at any school in Oak Park this fall are invited to the Blast Off to Kindergarten free community event from 10 a.m. to noon this Sunday, May 19 at Rehm Park, 1000 S. Scoville Ave. Hosted by the Collaboration for Early Childhood, the space-themed event is designed to celebrate incoming kindergarteners and connect families to community resources that will help promote a smooth transition to kindergarten for everyone involved.

Move with the Mayor rescheduled
The Village's Move with the Mayor event, which was postponed earlier this week, has been rescheduled to take place in conjunction with the Collaboration for Early Childhood’s Blast Off to Kindergarten event. Village President Vicki Scaman will join Kuumba Kids Dance for an interactive family dance activity from 11:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday, May 19 at Rehm Park. The Oak Park Department of Public Health is working to coordinate a separate bike safety event featuring a bike rodeo and free bike helmet giveaway. Police Department participating in Cop on a Rooftop initiative
The Oak Park Police Department is joining law enforcement agencies across the state in taking part in the annual Cop on a Rooftop fundraiser to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois. Stop by between 5 a.m. and noon this Friday, May 17 at the Dunkin' Donuts at 6820 Roosevelt Rd. to lend your support.

Space available for Home Ownership Workshop
There is still time to reserve a spot at the Home Ownership Workshop being hosted by the Village and CEDA from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday, May 18 at the Community Recreation Center, 229 Madison St. The free workshop is open to all individuals and families interested in home ownership. Topics that will be discussed include budgeting and financing options for homebuyers, current real estate market trends in Oak Park and tips for maintaining your home. What's Blooming on Harrison happening in Arts District
Don't miss the Oak Park Arts District's annual What’s Blooming on Harrison Street Festival starting at 11 a.m. this Saturday, May 18. From Humphrey to Cuyler avenues, Harrison Street will transform into an art fair with live music, food vendors, maker's booths and a children’s carnival. OPRF hosting community block party
Oak Park and River Forest High School is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a community block party set for 1 to 4 p.m. this Sunday, May 19. The event will feature the legendary alumni band The Jade 50’s, a variety of food trucks, face painting, bounce houses and numerous other family-friendly activities. The fun will take place on the west side of the OPRF building, 201 N. Scoville Ave., where attendees will have a chance to take a lap on the school’s new track.
