Free COVID-19 tests available
The Oak Park Public Health Department has free rapid COVID-19 tests available for residents. Community members are welcome to come to Village Hall, 123 Madison St., during regular business hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays to pick up free tests. This offer will continue as long as supplies last, so please contact the Health Department at 708.358.5480 or health@oak-park.us before coming in to ensure the supplies are on-hand. Oak Park public health officials encourage residents to take advantage of this program, as testing is one way to limit the spread of COVID-19 in our community this winter. In addition, one set of four rapid antigen tests is available from the federal government for U.S. residential households. Find more information and the order form at https://special.usps.com/testkits.

Refuse and recycling collection schedule
Refuse and recycling is collected in Oak Park each weekday based on the location on the map with the exception of major holidays when collection is typically delayed by one day. Carts should be placed out for collection no later than 7 a.m. on the morning of collection day. Compost is collected on a bi-weekly basis during the winter months and weekly from April through November. The Village provides waste hauling services to single-family homes and multifamily dwellings with five or fewer units. Owners and managers of larger multifamily buildings negotiate separate contracts with private companies. For more information about the Village’s refuse and recycling programs, visit www.oak-park.us/refuse or email publicworks@oak-park.us. Residents can contact LRS, the Village’s waste hauling contractor, by calling 844.633.3577, emailing service@LRSrecycles.com or visiting www.lrsrecycles.com/oakpark.

Beware of electricity scammers
If someone calls or knocks on your door promising a better deal on electricity, be cautious — you could be misled into switching to a supplier that will cost more. The Village is recirculating this message after recent reports of an unscrupulous solicitor visiting the homes of Oak Park residents. Salespeople who offer to save you money may ask for your account number or to see your bill. Most likely they are selling a low introductory rate or trying to get your account number so they can switch you to a different provider without your permission. Representatives from the Village or its electricity supplier, MC Squared Energy, never solicit door-to-door or by telephone.
