[Attention Homeowners - Action Required]: Check Your Lead Service Line for Replacement
Attention Village of Lemont Home and Building Owners: We need your help collecting information on the material of the water service line in your home or building, especially if built before 1986.
|
A Public Informational Meeting will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at 6:30 p.m., Village Hall Boardroom, 418 Main Street.
The Village of Lemont has begun our Lead Service Line Replacement Program as mandated by the State of Illinois. This includes replacing any water service lines made from lead in homes built before 1986, or with materials made between 1986-2014, which the Village of Lemont will be responsible for replacing.
It is imperative that we collect your information so the Village can get the best estimate of the cost of the replacement project and determine a timeline based on the number of homes built before 1986 with lead service lines. Congress banned the use of lead service line pipes in 1986 to protect public health.
Please visit our website which includes much information and detailed instructions to determine the material of your service line and a link to the questionnaire to report your information - https://www.lemont.il.us/lead-service-line-replacement
Due to the village reporting requirements to the IEPA, we are asking that the questionnaire be completed by August 15, 2023.
 VOTE FOR YOUR
FAVORITE STREET SWEEPER LEMONTSTER
The Village of Lemont is committed to effective and sustainable solutions to reduce stormwater and air pollution. Our new street sweeper is arriving this fall, and we need your vote to name it with your favorite Lemontster! The Lemontster and name with the most votes will be displayed on the new street sweeper.
Street sweeping is a pollution prevention service provided by our Public Works Department. It protects local waterways and infrastructures by strategically targeting trash and pollution removed from roadways before it enters a storm drain.
Stormwater is a leading contributor to pollution. When it rains, stormwater flows from roofs, sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and other urban surfaces onto our streets, picking up pollution and trash along the way. Water that enters the stormwater system remains untreated and enters the nearest body of water, which in our case is the Illinois and Michigan Canal, and ultimately reaches the rivers. This is why it is important to hep our Village and streets stay as clean as possible. Because this water is not treated it is important not to dump any chemicals, drain RV sewer waste, or throw garbage, cut grass or leaf clippings into the street where they can wind up in the sewers and pollute our waterways.
The job of a Street Sweeper is very important to aid in the reduction of pollutants entering our stormwater system and air. The Street Sweeper is outfitted with water sprayers, brushes and a vacuum that work together to remove toxic pollutants and trash from roads while reducing dust levels. This helps to keep our streets, our community, and our waterways cleaner.
Pick your favorite Lemontster and name to be on our new Street Sweeper at https://polco.us/shapar
VOTING ENDS on MONDAY, AUGUST 28 2023.
