Park City Police Department Saves Life With Naloxone
(Park City, IL April 16, 2015) Chief Walter Holderbaum of the Park City Police Department announced that Park City Police Officer Ken Stoves administered Naloxone to an overdose victim on the afternoon of Thursday, April 16, 2015 which saved the life of a 22 year-old female.
Two individuals made an in-person report to the Park City Police Department of a vehicle that "ran off the road" on Route 120, just west of the Park City Police Department. Park City Officers arrived and observed an unresponsive female who was barely breathing slumped over inside the vehicle. The officer also observed evidence inside the vehicle, which indicated that she might have been suffering from an overdose. While one police officer monitored the female's vital signs, Park City Detective, Ken Stoves administered the Naloxone. Within a minute, the unresponsive female began breathing and regained consciousness. After that, she was transported to Vista East Hospital for treatment. All Park City Police Officers have been trained in the administration of Naloxone and carry it in their squad vehicles.
The Lake County Opioid Initiative launched the law enforcement Naloxone Training Program in November 2014. As a result of this training program, a total of nine lives have been saved by law enforcement since Christmas 2014.
