It is spring, meaning it’s the season for road construction,
outdoor activities, and new adventures. Additionally,
it is tornado season.
The tornado events of last evening devastated Fairdale, IL. If you want to help, the Village of Mundelein
has set up a webpage listing the ways to contribute.
This morning, at the Committee of the Whole Meeting, the
standing committees reported on items that will come to vote at the Lake County
Board Meeting which starts at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14. A number of road projects are on the agenda,
including the long-awaited improvement of Hawley Street. This is a fine example of intergovernmental
collaboration for effective and cost efficient solutions. Another transportation item is the extension
of the improvements on Peterson Road, west of Rte. 83. Watch for the final vote on Tuesday - and
then progress!
Another item of interest: View
this Lake County Partners report on this public/private partnership focused
on economic development and jobs. On
Tuesday, I will provide a summary report for the Lake County Board.
Finally, I hope to see you tomorrow at the Business Expo at
Grand Dominion from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. I
will be there to provide information, take your questions and share County and
Forest Preserve resources. Please stop by to talk.
Regards, Chuck

While about $60 million of that is carried over from projects that were started last year, there will be about $77 million in new projects, which are expected to be awarded during the first six months of 2015. The plan includes 24 projects, 11 of which contain non-motorized travel improvements, such as bike paths, or adding bike friendly lanes. Learn More

National Work Zone Awareness Week
Recently, the Lake County Department of
Transportation recognized National Work Zone Awareness Week. Each year as the
weather warms up, work zones pop up along your daily commute. Accidents in
construction zones are preventable if you slow down, pay attention and EXPECT
THE UNEXPECTED! Take a few minutes to learn about the LCDOT road projects planned for your area so you can plan your route
accordingly, and give yourself plenty of time to get where you are going. Being
prepared will give you time to put safety first while navigating our roadways
throughout the construction season.
IDOT
Resurfacing Projects
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has several big
resurfacing projects in Lake County this summer. The projects listed below are
expected to start in the next few weeks, but there may be additional work later
in the year. When resurfacing projects occur on major roadways, motorists can
expect delays. State routes fall under the jurisdiction of IDOT and all questions and
comments regarding these projects should be submitted through
IDOT. To find out where you will encounter delays, please monitor local,
real-time traffic information through Lake County PASSAGE.

The Lake County Zoning Board of Appeals will hold an administrative appeal hearing regarding the use of Midlothian Manor, the current rental housing facility located at 22843 N. Lakewood Lane in Lake Zurich. The hearing has been rescheduled for May 12 at 4:30 p.m. at Lake Zurich High School Library, 300 Church Street, Lake Zurich.
Many residents have raised questions about the review and approval process regarding this issue. The Lake County Board does not have a role in this decision. County ordinance authorizes the County’s Planning, Building and Development Department to make land use determinations, and the Zoning Board to hear appeals. Learn more about how administrative appeal hearings are conducted and ways you can participate (email, in-person public comment, and testimony/cross-examination appearance).
Questions and concerns regarding the Housing Authority’s plan to relocate a housing program for 14 individuals, who have faced chronic homelessness and mental illness, should be directed to PADS and the Lake County Housing Authority. Project-specific information is available on both the Housing Authority webpage and the PADS Lake County webpage.
