Want to know about current weather conditions before heading outside? Board Approves Agreement to Bring New Tech Company to Gurnee

This month, the Lake County Board approved an economic incentive package to bring Akhan Semiconductor, Inc, a new technology company, to Gurnee.  The County Board was one of many state and local governments that worked together to successfully attract Akhan to the area by collaborating on income, sales and property tax abatements. More


Keeping Pets Safe in Winter

Did you know wind chill can threaten your pet’s life even if the temperature isn’t extremely cold?  From salt and antifreeze safety, to signs of hypothermia and frostbite, winter can bring new dangers to pets.  Learn about these and other winter hazards with pet safety tips from the Health Department.

Job Fair at Six Flags
Six Flags Great America in Gurnee is holding a job fair for full time and part time positions on Tuesday, April 28.  Learn about various departments and positions throughout the park.  Interested applicants are encouraged to apply online prior to the event.

Apply For Summer Youth Employment Program Feb. 1
The Lake County Board’s Summer Youth Employment Program offers youth, age 14-18 (or 14-22 with an Individualized Education Plan) the opportunity for a paid, part-time work experience over the summer.  Youth are matched with local worksites and gain valuable experience while earning a pay check.  Applications are available beginning on Feb. 1 online or at the Lake County Job Center in Waukegan and are due on Feb. 28.  For more information, visit www.lakecountyjobcenter.com


New Degrees and Program Opportunities at the University Center of Lake County

New Partnerships and Programs
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville recently joined the consortium of colleges and universities that offer programs through the University Center of Lake County.  The addition brings three new programs including: a Master of Science in Education in Instructional Technology, a Certificate in Web-Based Learning, and an accelerated RN to BS.  

In addition, North Park University will launch a new Master of Organizational Leadership program through a combination of classroom and online formats.  Read Full Press Release

College Financial Aid Help Sessions
Students and their parents can get help and learn about financial aid by attending free FAFSA Workshops (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) available at various locations throughout Lake County through March.
