The Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) railway has informed the Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) that it will temporarily reclose two railroad crossings in Lake County to complete repairs to newly installed asphalt.
- The railroad crossing on IL 173 east of US 41 will close from Oct. 1-2, weather permitting.
- The railroad crossing on Wadsworth Road east of US 41 will close from Oct. 8-9, weather permitting.
The crossings were recently repaired as part of CPKC railroad crossing improvement projects. Following the initial closures, drivers removed barricades and drove across the newly placed asphalt before it had fully cured. This caused damage to the new pavement that must be repaired soon to prevent further damage and premature pavement failure.
Drivers should not move or drive around barricades or other traffic control devices. Newly placed asphalt needs time to cure properly, and driving on it before it is ready can damage the pavement and create unsafe conditions for drivers and workers.
