New roundabout at Russell Road and Kenosha Road/47th Avenue
Upcoming Road Closure for Second Roundabout The intersection of Russell Road and Lewis Avenue/39th Avenue/EZ will be closed to all traffic for 90 days, starting Monday, July 13, at 10 a.m., for construction of the second single-lane roundabout on Russell Road.
For this closure, there will be two signed detour routes:
For Russell Road, the signed detour route will be Sheridan Road, to 9th Street, to Kenosha Road. Local traffic will be allowed on Russell Road from the west of Kenosha Road and from the east of Sheridan Road, but the work area for the roundabout will be closed to all traffic.
For Lewis Avenue/39th Avenue/EZ, the signed detour will be 9th Street to Sheridan Road/WI-32 to 104th Street/WI-165 to 39th Avenue/EZ. Local traffic will have access from the south on Lewis Avenue and from the north on 39th Avenue/EZ, but the roundabout work area itself will be closed to all traffic.
Roundabouts provide safer and more efficient traffic flow in many locations because traffic moves more slowly and in only one direction. Nationally, they are a proven safety countermeasure to substantially reduce crashes that result in serious injury or death.
Construction this year also includes resurfacing on Russell Road and adding bike-friendly shoulders between Kenosha Road and Lewis Avenue as part of the Russell Road Corridor Improvement Project.
