Lake County, Ill. — The Lake County Health Department is proud to share the results of the 2nd Annual Operation Dropbox donation drive. This year's Operation Dropbox saw a 66% increase in donation sites and a 68% increase in total donations. In total, the Lake County Health Department collected 6,864 lbs. of donations across 65 donation sites throughout the month of May, along with $1,020 in gift cards.
This donation drive supports local veterans and their families through Veterans Path to Hope (VPH). VPH is a nonprofit dedicated to providing housing, employment assistance, peer support, caregiver training, and counseling to veterans experiencing homelessness.
Following the donation drive, on Wednesday, June 10, the Lake County Health Department conducted its annual state-mandated emergency preparedness exercise at the Lake County Division of Transportation. Volunteers from the Lake County Medical Reserve Corps, Health Department staff, and VPH used the collected donations to simulate the unloading and distribution of medical countermeasures during a public health emergency.
"I am so incredibly proud of everyone who volunteered, donated, and showed up to make this possible," said Christopher Hoff, Lake County Health Department Executive Director. "We couldn't do this without you. Your donations will make a significant impact, and for that, we are grateful."

The McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH) hosted its 7th Annual Operation Dropbox and collected a total of 9,362 lbs. of donations across 110 sites. MCDH and the McHenry County Medical Reserve Corps held a parallel cross-regional exercise one day earlier, reinforcing emergency response capabilities and leveraging the donation drive as a hands-on training opportunity.
