A Flood Warning has been issued for portions of the Des Plaines River in Lake County due to recent heavy rainfall. Additional rain, which may be heavy at times, is anticipated throughout the day.
The Lake County Stormwater Management Commission (SMC) and Lake County Emergency Management Agency (LCEMA) are closely monitoring local conditions as the abundant amount of precipitation has saturated the ground and caused localized flooding in some areas.
Water levels on the Des Plaines River are expected to be elevated from the Illinois-Wisconsin state line to the border of Lake and Cook counties. Generally clearer and warmer weather is forecast for Lake County next week, which would allow water levels to recede. However, it is important to remember that flooding can occur in any area when heavy rain exceeds the ability of the ground to absorb it.
