Update: Detention Granted for Woman Charged with Child Abuse
Priscilla Marshall
(Lake County, IL) Today, a Lake County Judge granted the State’s Petition to detain Priscilla Marshall, 34, who been charged with Aggravated Battery of a Child (Class 3), Domestic Battery Causing Bodily Harm (Class A), and Child Endangerment (Class A).
At the detention hearing, the State argued that the victim has suffered systematic and long-term psychological and physical abuse at the hands of this defendant. Prosecutors further argued that if the defendant were to be released, it would be a threat to the victim’s safety and mental well-being.
After today’s detention hearing, Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart stated,
“In light of the ongoing investigation, the moral mandate we have to secure justice, and the need to hold these two defendants accountable, we will be providing limited information.
I want to thank the Fox Lake Police Department for their work on this case and for ensuring the child’s safety as soon as the report was received. The Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center was instrumental to this investigation, and they will be supporting the victim throughout the course of this case and beyond.
Children must be protected with every tool we have. Our office will seek to detain every person who chooses to abuse members of our most vulnerable population, and then we will make sure that we hold them accountable after we secure guilty findings. To think of a child having to flee their own parents is heartbreaking, and I would tell anyone abusing their child that you will face serious consequences when we find you.
We all share a responsibility to protect children. If you see something, speak up. It may save a life.
Every part of society must do a deeper dive to understand the root causes of BOTH this terrible crime and the ways that it is often hidden from schools, police, and DCFS. We must re-dedicate ourselves to public education, uncovering abuse, and punishing abusers. Through these steps, we can better protect our precious children.”
Marshall’s next court date is scheduled for April 2, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. for a preliminary hearing.
Detention Granted for Man Charged with Child Abuse
Cody Marion
(Lake County, IL) Today, a Lake County Judge granted the State’s Petition to detain Cody Marion, 35, who has been charged with Aggravated Battery of a Child (Class 3), Domestic Battery Causing Bodily Harm (Class A), and Child Endangerment (Class A).
On March 6, 2026, Fox Lake Police responded to a report of a child found bruised and bloody. Police conducted an investigation where they learned that the child was being abused and the child had run away from his nearby home.
At the detention hearing for Marion, prosecutors argued that the child has experienced years of psychological and physical abuse by his mother and that Marion, the mother's boyfriend, has been complicit in the abuse. Prosecutors further argued that Marion could have done more to protect the child.
Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart stated, “Children must be protected with every tool we have. Our office will seek to detain these offenders while they are awaiting trial, and then we will make sure that we hold them accountable after we secure guilty findings. To think of a child having to flee their own parents is heartbreaking, and I would tell everyone abusing their child that you will face serious consequences when we find you."
Marion’s next court date is scheduled for April 2, 2026, for a preliminary hearing.
The State has also filed a Petition to Detain Priscilla Marshall, 34, who has also been charged with Aggravated Battery of a Child, Domestic Battery, and Child Endangerment. Marshall’s detention hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, March 10, at 1:30 p.m.
