Be Salt Smart this Winter
While salt is an essential part of winter safety, using too much salt is bad for our environment. Excess salt use leads to chloride in our lakes, streams, and other waterways. Just one teaspoon of salt can pollute five gallons of water to a level that is toxic to freshwater ecosystems. Help protect our environment by using smart salting practices this winter. To learn more about using salt as a deicer, watch the video below.

Peek Behind the Scenes at SMC
While SMC staff spends a lot of time out in the field, making it their second office in some cases, we also have several staff members whose in-house office support allows us to keep the ball rolling and the lights on. Dijana Silber is one of those members of our team. She contributes to the management and oversight of the stormwater financial workflow.
This includes processing payments, invoices, and purchase orders, tracking expenditure and revenue, analyzing budget allocations, assisting with the yearly budget preparation, and streamlining financial processes while coordinating with the County’s Finance department. She also prepares monthly Commission meeting agendas and minutes, as well as financial and regulatory reports.
Dijana enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and playing with her dog in the backyard in her free time. She originally joined SMC as a part-time employee working with the Regulatory team in 2015. We’re lucky to have her support over the last decade to keep SMC on track to continue its mission.
