Officials Celebrate Completion of Lewis Avenue at Wadsworth Road Project
Today, local officials gathered to celebrate the completion of the Lewis Avenue at Wadsworth Road project in northeast Lake County.
This is a busy intersection that sees nearly 40,000 vehicles pass through every day. To improve safety, traffic operations and make the area more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists, several upgrades were completed during the 2025 construction season.
Key improvements include:
- New turn lanes and traffic signals to improve traffic flow and encourage safer turning movements at the intersection
- Pedestrian signals with push buttons for safer crossings
- An off-road path connecting the intersection to the regional Robert McClory Bike Path
Lake County secured $3.4 million in federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality funding for the project, covering about 80% of the total cost. The remaining 20% was funded jointly by Lake County and the Village of Beach Park.
Thank you to everyone for your patience throughout construction. Even with the new improvements in place, please remember to drive safely through the area.
While construction is winding down across the county for the winter, the Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) is already preparing for 2026. Next year will bring more projects focused on modernizing and improving Lake County’s transportation system.
Before heading out this winter, remember to check Lake County PASSAGE for live traffic conditions, intersection camera images and even dash cam snapshots from LCDOT snowplows. Download the Lake County PASSAGE app and visit lakecountypassage.com.
