Career Transition for Military Veterans

The Off-Base Transition Training (OBTT) pilot program is an opportunity for veterans, veterans currently serving in the National Guard and Reserve, and their spouses to take control of their career through workshops to help meet their employment goals. OBTT provides employment preparation, education and opportunities that allow attendees to maximize their career potential.

Basic Computer Skills Course

Offered by the Lake County Digital Growth Initiative, a Basic Computer Skills course will begin on September 29^th at the Job Center of Lake County in Waukegan.  Residents who register and attend all six sessions may qualify to receive a laptop to take home.  Seating is limited.

Level Up Your Job Search: Walk-in Computer Lab with Digital Navigator Assistance

Feeling overwhelmed by online job applications or searching for information online? Join us for dedicated support in our accessible computer lab. Access company websites, navigate job boards, and complete online job applications with confidence.  Our Digital Navigator can guide you through the process, answering your questions about computer basics, internet usage, and navigating online platforms.   This is a walk-in service, available on a first-come, first-served basis.

When: Thursdays 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Workforce Readiness Skills Lead to A Career

Lake County Workforce Development received a supplemental grant to serve immigrants in 2024, enabling Workforce Development to hire contingent workers who would travel to strategic sites in Lake County that intentionally serve the immigrant population. One of those sites was the Highwood Library & Community Center, where Wilner connected with a Workforce staff member who assessed his needs. Wilner’s career journey is an example of how Workforce Development, in collaboration with community organizations, can pave the way for a successful career.

CEJA Waukegan Workforce Hub

Illinois is expanding its clean energy workforce! You can join a training program to begin a career in clean energy or get support to grow your clean energy business. Participation in CEJA makes a participant an “Equity Eligible Person”, which can make them highly sought after by some clean energy companies. These programs are part of the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA). The CEJA Workforce Programs are funded by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) through the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act.
