When Workday officially replaces BOSS (Oracle) this December as Lake County’s new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, it will be a major change as to how we conduct work at the County. How we currently manage Finance, Payroll, Human Resources and Purchasing will look and feel different.
You will have more access to make changes for yourself in Workday. Two key features include Time Tracking and Absence Management. While both tools relate to how time is managed, they serve different purposes:
Workday Time Tracking: Simplifies time entry and approval processes, tracks hours worked (including overtime and shift differentials) and supports customizable time entry through web browsers and mobile devices.
Workday Absence Management: Handles various types of absences, such as vacation, sick leave and other leaves of absence. Employees can easily view their own accrued time-off balances, such as paid time off or sick leave, before submitting a request. Managers will receive notifications in Workday to review and approve time-off requests. Once approved, the system automatically updates the employee’s leave balance and records the time off. The entire process is managed within Workday.
 A Benefits Reminder
Changes to your elected benefits typically occur during Open Enrollment. However, there are exceptions, known as Qualifying Life Events, that allow changes outside of the Open Enrollment time period. This may include a birth or adoption, marriage or civil union, divorce, change in employment level, loss of coverage or gain of alternative coverage.
If you experience any of these events, please complete a Benefits Enrollment/Change form and submit to Benefits@LakecountyIL.gov. For questions and clarification, please contact Benefits at Ext. 2415.

Q: How can I get a copy of my medical, dental or vision insurance card?
A: Visit the BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois (BCBSIL) website where you can access a digital copy of your insurance card. You can also request a printed copy to be sent to your home address. The BCBSIL App is also a great resource for members to access their insurance card, find in-network doctors and hospitals and review claims.
Express Scripts Pharmacy, our prescription medication provider will not give you a physical card, but you can use the app for a digital card if preferred or when needed.
For a dental card request, although not required or necessary, please reach out to Delta Dental customer service at 800-323-1743 or visit the website.
For vision insurance, there is no physical card provided by VSP. All you need to do is go to your preferred eye doctor that accepts VSP and give them your name, date of birth and Social Security Number. They should be able to look you up with that information. Visit the website for resources such as finding a doctor nearest you.
