February is Black History Month

Ruby Bridges Then And Now

Black history month is a time to celebrate and recognize the achievements and contributions of Black Americans throughout history. We would like to highlight Ruby Bridges, a true pioneer in the fight for educational equality. At six years old, Ruby made history on November 14, 1960, when she became the first Black child to integrate an all-white elementary school in the South—William Frantz Elementary in New Orleans, Louisiana. Escorted by federal marshals, Ruby faced crowds of protesters daily. Her bravery paved the way for future generations and served as a powerful reminder of the strength of a single child in the face of injustice. https://www.nps.gov/people/rubybridges.htm
