Aptakisic Road Project is Complete
The project to improve Aptakisic Road from IL 83 to Buffalo Grove Road is substantially complete. Fresh pavement is in place. Road striping has been applied. The new traffic signals are turned on.
Construction involved a 5-lane roadway cross-section that includes:
- Two travel lanes in each direction
- A road median with left-turn lanes
- A new multi-use path on the north side of Aptakisic Road
- A new sidewalk on the south side of Aptakisic Road
Planning for the project began more than a decade ago due to rising traffic demand and the lack of pedestrian and bicycle connectivity along the road. After several public meetings and years of planning, design and securing funding, the project was ready to be included in the Lake County Division of Transportation's (LCDOT) construction program.
In May of 2023, the Lake County Board approved the construction contract. Construction took 1.5 seasons to complete and was finished on schedule.
The 1.2-mile stretch of Aptakisic Road was rebuilt from the ground up with new underground storm sewers to improve drainage, concrete curbs, asphalt pavement, traffic signals and guardrails.
A new sidewalk was constructed along with a new multi-use path located off-road for additional user comfort and safety. Wider road shoulders have been added to better accommodate on-road bikers.
While the project is substantially complete, please continue to watch for workers in the area as crews finish clean-up work. Learn more about the project by visiting the project website, and stay up-to-date on the latest information by following LCDOT on Facebook.
