Nov. 5 General Election is Right Around the Corner
 The Lake County Clerk’s Office will help you stay informed and familiarize yourself with all the options available to registered voters in Lake County.
Study a Sample Ballot Prepare ahead by reviewing a sample ballot for your Lake County address. Getting familiar with the candidates and ballot measures will help you make confident and informed decisions when you vote.
Early voting County-wide early voting has begun. Take advantage of an expanded list of early voting sites so you can cast your ballot at a time and place that best suits your schedule. For a complete list of early voting hours and locations, utilize the Early Voting Site Finder tool.
Election Day Voting Your assigned polling location can be easily found on Lake Voter Power or via the new Election Day Polling Places tool. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day. Grace registration is available for eligible unregistered voters only at your assigned voting site.
Vote Centers on Election Day This year, vote centers will be available to service all registered voters on Election Day. These centers allow you to vote regardless of where you live in Lake County. The vote centers include:
- Mundelein High School West District Office, 1500 W Hawley St., Mundelein
- Lake County Courthouse Lobby, 18 N County St., Waukegan
Election Results After the polls close on Election Day and once early vote and vote-by-mail results are uploaded, Election Day site totals will also begin to upload to our Election Results portal.
Per Illinois election law, election results are not final until 14 days after Election Day. There may be votes that need to be counted from verified provisional ballots and late-arriving vote-by-mail ballots postmarked no later than Election Day.

 Bring your pumpkins to one of these locations to be composted. The Pumpkin Smash is an annual effort by the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County and communities to divert pumpkins from landfills. 2025 Budget Approved
To advance its 100-Year Vision for Lake County, preserve and restore our natural lands, and expand community outreach and education, the Lake County Forest Preserves Board of Commissioners approved the 2025 fiscal year budget during their October 9 meeting.
The $85,817,709 budget represents a decrease of $4,870,081 (5.4%) from the previous year’s modified budget. The decrease is due to a reduction in capital expenditures. The budget covers expenditures for the period from January 1 through December 31, 2025. Of the total property taxes collected in Lake County, less than 2% goes to support the Lake County Forest Preserves. Learn More »

Greenbelt Forest Preserve to Expand
The Lake County Forest Preserves Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of about 13.2 acres to expand Greenbelt Forest Preserve in North Chicago.
The property, owned by Klairmont Family LLC, is on Route 120, just east of Willow Avenue. The Forest Preserves has been interested in buying this land for more than 35 years. The addition will be factored into a new master plan for Greenbelt, a process has just begun and will continue into 2025. Implementation of the master plan is included among a proposed list of projects that will be funded if the Forest Preserves referendum passes on November 5. Read More »

Horizons Magazine Shines
The Lake County Forest Preserves' Horizons magazine recently received four prestigious awards from two industry-leading competitions.
The free quarterly publication earned two awards in a contest run by the Chicago Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the largest association for American communications professionals. Additionally, it received two national accolades through APEX, the Annual Awards for Publication Excellence.
Horizons garnered a PRSA Skyline Award for “Best Use of Print/Online Publishing” and an Excellence Award for “Content Marketing,” showcasing the 2023 fall and winter issues. The Skyline Awards are Chicago’s premier public relations and communications competition, celebrating creativity and innovation in the industry. Learn More »

Lake County Advances Patriot Path Project
The Lake County Board approved a resolution at its Oct. 8 meeting that moves Segments 2 and 3 of the proposed Patriot Path into Phase II Engineering. Segments 1 and 4 have already advanced to these next steps, so all four segments are now in the detailed design phase with construction programmed to begin as early as 2027.
The Patriot Path is slated to run off-road along IL 137 from near Independence Grove Forest Preserve to Naval Station Great Lakes. It would be 5.5 miles long and serve as a key connection to other regional trails such as the Robert McClory Bike Path and Des Plaines River Trail. Learn more

Oh Deer! Watch For Deer on the Roads This Fall
While accidents can happen at any time of year, most deer-vehicle incidents occur between dusk and dawn during the months of October, November, and December. Drivers should slow down and stay alert to avoid deer-vehicle collisions this fall when traveling after dark.
Not all deer-vehicle accidents can be prevented, but drivers can reduce their chances of a collision by understanding basic deer behavior and being proactive. Learn more

During National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, which runs to Oct. 26, the Lake County Health Department reminds residents about the dangers of lead exposure in the home. While there are no safe levels of lead in the blood, the good news is lead poisoning is preventable. The Health Department provides several programs to keep children safe from lead in their homes. Waukegan Library Features First Library-Based Telehealth Booth
Thanks to support from Abbott Labs and in partnership with Waukegan Public Library, people have access to a quiet, private ADA-accessible space to connect with their healthcare providers and attend health appointments virtually. Equipped with a Wi-Fi-enabled laptop, webcam and medical equipment such as a scale, blood pressure monitor, thermometer and pulse monitor, the soundproof booth is designed to meet diverse healthcare needs.
The booth can be reserved in advance or used on a walk-in basis during library hours, with support from the library’s trained Adult Services staff. The library is open seven days a week, making it convenient for virtual healthcare access. No library card or proof of Waukegan residency is required, ensuring this service is accessible to all. Watch County Board and Committee Meetings

The public is welcome to attend all meetings in person at the Lake County Administrative Tower, 18 N. County St., Waukegan or may attend meetings remotely using the registration link on the front page of each meeting’s agenda.
Individuals attending meetings in person or remotely may present their public comments during the meeting. Those not in attendance may provide written public comment via email or by mail.
