Voter Roll Audit Mailings

Pursuant to 10 ILCS 5/4-30, the Lake County Clerk’s Office began mailing audit letters on July 1, 2024. The purpose of these letters is to verify the voter rolls prior to the November 5, 2024, General Election. A non-forwardable letter will be mailed to every registered voter in the county. The instructions for the mailing are as follows:

  • If you receive your audit mailing and still reside at the address on the letter, no further action is required.
  • If you receive the audit mailing for someone who was previously registered at the address, but has since moved:
    • If you know the person, please have them fill out the audit form and return it to the County Clerk’s Office. Pursuant to the Illinois Administrative Code, the request to cancel the voter’s record must be completed by the voter.
    • If you cannot contact the person, please write “Return to Sender” on the envelope so that it can be returned by the United States Postal Service to the County Clerk’s Office. By federal law, the voter will then be mailed a second, forwardable confirmation letter. If you receive the second letter, please write “Return to Sender” on the envelope so that it can be returned.
  • If you receive the audit mailing for someone who is deceased:
    • If you have access to a death record for that voter, please send it to the County Clerk’s Office so that their record can be canceled. Pursuant to the Illinois Administrative Code, a death certificate is required to cancel the record of the deceased voter.
    • If you do not have access to a death record for that voter, please write “Return to Sender” on the envelope so that it can be returned by the United States Postal Service to the County Clerk’s Office. By federal law, the voter will then be mailed a second, forwardable confirmation letter. If you receive the second letter, please write “Return to Sender” on the envelope so that it can be returned.
  • Audit forms or death records can be submitted to our office via:
    • Email: VoterRegistration@lakecountyil.gov
    • Fax: (847) 984-5827
    • Mail: Lake County Clerk's Office - Voter Services Department
      18 N. County St. - Rm 101, Waukegan, IL 60085
Thank you for doing your part in keeping our voter rolls up to date!

2024 Summer Intern Class

1

The Lake County Clerk's Office welcomed 6 interns for the summer of 2024, 3 from the Lake County Workforce Development Program and 3 from the Mikva Challenge Summer Fellows. For their summer with us, the interns had the opportunity to visit several of our community partners including the Lake County Coroner's Office and the Lake County Jail. Our Mikva Fellows met with Celeste Flores, Director of Community Building at Mano a Mano, for a lunch and learn on organizing and advocacy in the public-making process. Day-to-day, our interns had the chance to participate in various tasks and learn what it takes to make the Lake County Clerk's Office function. The interns will remain with us through the end of July and will continue to take advantage of opportunities to learn about public service. We have thoroughly enjoyed having each of them in the office with us and wish them well in all of their future endeavors!

Keep Up With The Clerk

5

Wrapping up May, Clerk Vega had the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion titled "HOW WE VOTE." The panel was organized by the Kol Hadash Congregation as part of their civic engagement program. Continuing into June, members of our staff had the chance to participate in Juneteenth and Pride events, embracing the power of equity, diversity, and unity within our community. Events like these and others are vital opportunities for our office to partake in community, conduct civic engagement, and inform the community about our work. Clerk Vega also had an informative discussion with County Board Member Carissa Casbon and held a graduation reception for our intern who was assigned to the Recording Division during the school year. Juvencio graduated from Cristo Rey College Prep in Waukegan and will be starting college this fall. Congratulations Juvencio!

Greenbook

Our Greenbook program is now active! The County of Lake, as Trustee for taxing districts, currently maintains a list of properties that have been acquired through tax sale proceedings. These parcels are mostly vacant land and are offered through the "Greenbook" via a sealed, bid-based auction. To view available properties, please visit the County Clerk's website here. Our Greenbook program will be open from June 17 - October 4, 2024.
