Friends,

Last week was a big one for Lake County as we strive to improve public safety. This week’s newsletter highlights so much of the great work being done including the introduction of a new software system that not only will result in faster response times for our first responders (firefighters, paramedics and EMTs, law enforcement officers) when you call 911; it will also make better use of taxpayer funds by streamlining our emergency response system.

Other public safety initiatives that you can learn about in this week’s newsletter include free boating safety training and our 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The CIP is a comprehensive approach to prioritizing public safety by preserving, modernizing and expanding county-owned infrastructure.

Finally, as one of the founders of the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office’s Gun Violence Prevention Initiative, I am thrilled to announce the publication last week of our first-ever comprehensive, county-wide Violence Prevention Plan. You can read the plan here.

The GVPI’s 2024 Violence Prevention Plan is a lengthy document, but there is an excellent two-page executive summary near the beginning that will give you a great overview of this innovative program for addressing not only the acute problem of violence but also its underlying root causes.

If you have questions or concerns about any of the approaches Lake County is taking to improve public safety, please contact me anytime at
SKnizhnik@lakecountyil.gov. I would love to hear from you.

Best wishes,
