Lake County Celebrates 211 Day
February 11 marks the fifth annual 211 Day in Lake County, celebrating this free 24/7 service that connects residents to the help they need. To show your support and appreciation, help get the word out about 211 and this valuable service.
211 is a free, easy-to-remember, confidential helpline that connects people in need to a wide range of essential health and human services. Expert navigators are trained specialists who listen, identify underlying problems, and guide people to available resources. Since its start, 211 has made more than 250,000 connections in every zip code in Lake County, providing help for housing and shelter, rent and utility assistance, mental health and addictions, food, healthcare and more. It also aids law enforcement by reducing non-emergency calls to 911.
"Help is one phone call or text away. 211 is here, 24/7, for residents experiencing food insecurity, struggling to afford housing, seeking health services, and much more,” said Lake County Board Chair Sandy Hart. “The Lake County Board is committed to our partnership with United Way of Lake County so this critically important service is always available to residents when they need it most.”
When calling 211 or texting your zip code to 898-211, individuals are connected to a trained, live person whether you call in English or Spanish. The 211 team also can interpret more than 150 other languages. Launched by United Way of Lake County in September 2019, it provides a critical service that is available for everyone across Lake County. Watch this video to learn more.
“We are grateful to Lake County government for their steadfast partnership and generous support of our 211 service, as well as the many partners and supporters who help make 211 possible for Lake County,” said Kristi Long, President and CEO of United Way of Lake County. “211 Day is a wonderful opportunity to continue to raise awareness of this vital resource that helps people, improves lives and strengthens our community.”
